869        A magnitude 8.6 M earthquake and tsunami struck the area around Sendai in the northern part of Honshu, Japan

1956      A 7.7 Megawatt Amorgos earthquake triggered a tsunami that affected the Aegean Sea. The mainshock was followed minutes later by a 7.2 Megawatt aftershock. 53 people were killed.

1958      A  7.8 Megawatt strike-slip earthquake in Alaska caused a landslide that produced a megatsunami in the Lituya Bay. A wave was recorded at 524 meters high, the largest in recorded history. Only 5 people were killed.
