Dog Tip of The Day, July 12

Search dogs should be properly identified while working. This should include a labeled vest along with a bell or something so a lost person isn’t surprised by the dog. Being lost, cold, wet, hungry, and afraid can be a terrible ordeal for almost any lost person. How they react to a dog approaching them is anyone’s guess, but if they see the dog identified with an orange vest, with a Search and Rescue label, that could immediately set their mind at ease. Otherwise, they could see the dog as something else to worry about.
