Today is the birthday of Franz Ernst Neumann, born in 1798, his study on the specific heats of compounds included what is now known as Neumann’s Law where the molecular heat of a compound is equal to the sum of the atomic heats of its constituents.

James Jeans, born in 1877 is known for the Rayleigh –Jeans Law which attempts to describe the spectral radiance of electromagnetic radiation for all wavelengths from a black body at a given temperature.

Carl Zeiss, born in 1816 was a German lens maker, he died in 1888 at age 72.
