1780      The Great Hurricane of 1780 kills 20,000 to 30,000 people in the Caribbean.

1790      An earthquake shook northern Algeria with a maximum Mercalli intensity of X which is Extreme, causing a tsunami in the Mediterranean Sea that killed 3000 people.

1963      over 2000 people are killed when a landslide in northern Italy behind the Vajont Dam caused a giant wave of water to overtop it.

1980      A magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurred in the Algerian town of El Asnam killing 3500 people and leaving 300,000 homeless.

1986      An earthquake measuring 7.5 on the Richter Scale struck San Salvador, El Salvador killing 1500 people.           

1992      A 13 kg fragment of the Peekskill meteorite lands in the driveway of the Knapp residence in Peekskill, NY destroying the family’s 1980 Chevy Malibu.
