1962      Columbus Day Storm, struck the U.S. Pacific Northwest with record wind velocities killing 46 people.

1979      Typhoon Tip, the lowest recorded non-tornadic atmospheric pressure of 87.0 kPa or 870 mbar (25. 69 in Hg) occurred in the Western Pacific during Typhoon Tip.

1992      a 5.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Cairo, Egypt, killing 510 people.
