Science Birthdays, October 14

Today is the birthday of Joseph Plateau, born in 1801, he was the first person to demonstrate the illusion of a moving image, he called his device a phenakistaocope, it used counter rotating disks and repeatedly drawn images.  If you ever blew soap bubbles, Plateau formulated the laws describing them called Plateau’s Laws.  He lost his eyesight by looking at the sun in an experiment.
