Today is the birthday of Ernst Chladni, born in 1756; he is considered the “Father of Acoustics for his research on vibrating plates and for calculating the speed of sound in different gases.  He also did pioneering studies of meteorites and is referred to as the “Father of Meteoritics”

Tennant Smithson, born in 1819, chemist, lost both parents as a child and was self educated, his hobby was chemistry, he attended lectures by Black in 1781, He met Scheele and made friends with Berzelius, He showed that the diamond was all carbon, Wollaston was his assistant, he discovered iridium and osmium in 1803, he was killed when a small drawbridge gave way under him and his horse catapulted him into a ditch, his mother was also killed while riding a horse.

1783       A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck New Jersey.

2007       A 7.4 magnitude earthquake occurs off the northern coast of Martinique. This affects the Eastern Caribbean as far north as Puerto Rico and as far south as Trinidad.

Dog Tip of The Day, November 30

Yesterday I learned something new about dogs. I always knew what a labradoodle was, but do you know what a doubledoodle is? It is when you breed two Labradoodles, a product of a black lab and a poodle along with a yellow lab and a poodle.

Today is the birthday of Luke Howard, born in 1772, he named the three principle categories of clouds; cumulus, stratus and cirrus. For this he is called the father of meteorology. What was his profession? He was a pharmacist.
