Science Birthdays, November 27

Today is the birthday of Anders Celsius, born in 1701, he is most famous for the Celsius temperature scale, however if Carl Linnaeus hadn’t reversed it in 1755, a year after his death, the boiling point would be zero and the freezing point 100. Celsius originally called hus scale the centigrade scale meaning “100 steps” in Latin.  Some people still refer to it as the centigrade scale, but technically it is the Celsius scale.  It used to also be called the Swedish thermometer.
