1811       New Madrid earthquake, the first two in a series of four severe earthquakes occurred in the vicinity of New Madrid, Missouri.

1920       Haiyuan Earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.5, rocked the Gansu province in China killing an estimated 273,400 people.

1973       Southern New England Ice Storm of 1973 lasted to Dec 17, 1 inch of ice, 5 in. of rain, 18 in of snow.
