Science Birthdays, May 22

William Sturgeon was born on this day in 1783. He was the first physicist to wrap a wire around a piece of metal to produce an electromagnet. Thinking about it, I think this might be the first scientific experiment I tried. I made hundreds of these and devices made from them as a child. I used dynamite wire wound around a nail and hooked up to a switch and a model train transformer. You can make so many things out of an electromagnet.

Willem Einthoven was born in 1860, he developed the electrocardiogram

Thomas Gold was born on this day in 1920. He is known for his continuous creation of the universe theory.
