5/27/1840        Lars Nilson                  chemist, discovered scandium in 1879, he died in 1899 at age 59.

5/27/1897        Sir John Cockcroft      physicist, Noble Prize for slitting the atom, he died in 1967 at age 70.

5/27/1901        Conrad Elvehjem        chemist, he discovered niacin which was a vitamin that led to the cure for pellagra, he died in 1962 at age 61.

5/27/1907        Rachael Carson           biologist, she wrote the book Silent Spring in 1962 and changed the way the world looks at environmental science, she died in 1964 at age 57.
