Science Birthdays, June 15

Today is the birthday of Thomas Weller, born in 1915, he received the Nobel Prize in medicine for his work on cultivating the polio virus, actually poliomyelitis. He received his M.S. degree with a thesis on fish parasites. He also worked on Shistosomiasis and Coxsackie viruses. He died in 2008 at age 93.

6/15/1755        Antoine Fourcroy,       chemist, he collaborated with Antoine Lavoisier, Morveau and Bertholett on the Methode de Nomenclature Chimique which helped standardize chemical nomenclature.  He might have been involved in causing Lavoisier’s death. He died in 1809 at age 54.
