Two early pioneers of animal training were Marian Krause and Keller Breland. Krause was an assistant for B. F. Skinner and worked training rats. She married Breland and together, they began training pigeons for the military. They published a book called Applied Animal Psychology. Many of the techniques we use today to train dogs and other animals such as the use of treats, clickers, etc. as reinforcers began with them. So when you use reinforcers realize that these have been proven methods of animal training back into the 1940’s and they work.
