1913 The temperature in Death Valley, California hit 134 F or 57 C, the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth.
2005 Hurricane Dennis slammed into the Florida Panhandle, causing billions of dollars in damage.

The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth has been -135.8 F or 94.7 C, this of course was in Antarctica. The highest temperature ever recorded was 136 F in Libya. That would be 57.8 C.
