Jul 12 1961 Pune floods due to failure of the Khadakwasla and Panshet dams, killing at least two thousand people.

Technically a flood is when land becomes covered by water that is not usually covered by water. Rising rivers, lakes and even the ocean do not become floods until they overflow their banks.
