1935    The Dust Bowl heat wave reaches its peak, sending temperatures to 109 F in Chicago and 104 in Milwaukee.

1982    Heavy rain causes a mudslide that destroys a bridge at Nagasaki, Japan killing 299 people.

The Dust Bowl was a period of severe dust storms in the 1930’s.  Brought on by drought and wind erosion, it severely damaged agriculture. There were three phases: 1934, 1936, 1939-1940.
