Today is the birthday of Isidor Rabi, born in 1898,  he discovered nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy or NMR. He died in 1988 at age 89.

Today is also the birthday of Charles Beebe, born in 1877 he was a biologist known for his deep dives in the bathysphere, he is considered one of the founders of ecology for his observations of deep sea creatures in their natural habitat, and his study of pheasants around the world, he died in 1962 at age 84.

Heinz Fraenkel-Conrat, born in 1910 was a chemist who discovered that the genetic control of viral reproduction in the tobacco mosaic virus was RNA and that it is carried in the nucleic core of the virus.  He died in 1999 at age 89.

 Jim Marshall, born in 1910 was the founder of Marshall Amplification and is often called the “Father of Loud.” He was an electrical engineer, singer and drummer who built amplifiers so his singing could be heard over his drums. In 1949, he started teaching other drummers including Mitch Mitchell, Micky Burt, Mickey Waller and Mickey Underwood. He died in 2012 at age 88.
