Today is the birthday of Adolf von Baeyer, born in 1835, he received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for the synthesis of indigo in 1905.  He was the first to propose the correct formula for indole in 1869.  He is also famous for his strain theory of triple bonds in small carbon rings.

Sir William Pope, born in 1870.  In 1899 he produced an optically active compound with asymmetric nitrogen but not an asymmetric carbon, proving Vant Hoff’s theory worked for compounds other than carbon.  He worked on developing mustard gas. He died in 1939 at age 69.

Dog Tip of The Day, October 31

Happy Halloween!  Remember, no chocolate for those dogs and cats. Chocolate is not good for them. If the dogs and cats seem afraid with the trick or treaters coming, keep them inside, stay with them to comfort them.  Nobody likes to be afraid, I don’t think animals do either.

Dog Tip of The Day, October 30

Speaking of fears, we also should be aware that many people are afraid of dogs. We like to let people pet out dogs when we are trying to socialize them but a lot of people aren’t comfortable with that, especially with big dogs or aggressive breeds.  Don’t expect people to accept your dog’s friendship, just because you know it is friendly.
